Training in tailwheel aircraft offers unique benefits for pilots that can help improve their overall flying skills and proficiency.
Course Duration
A full-time student should complete the course in 1- 2 weeks.

Requirements
The initial tailwheel endorsements will be done with a suitably rated, experienced tail wheel instructor.
A 2-hour briefing will be conducted focusing on the differences and between conventional and tail wheel aircraft and the flying techniques.
An Aircraft Technical exam will be completed before flying commences.
Depending on the individuals flying experience and skill level the tailwheel endorsement will take approximately 7-15 hours.
Benefits of tailwheel training:
- Enhanced Aircraft Control: Tailwheel aircraft are generally more challenging to taxi, take off, and land due to their design, which places the center of gravity behind the main landing gear.
- Improved Rudder Coordination: Flying a tailwheel aircraft requires greater rudder coordination, as using the rudder effectively is crucial for keeping the aircraft aligned.
- Enhanced Situational Awareness: Operating a tailwheel aircraft demands heightened situational awareness and attention to detail, as pilots must anticipate and quickly react to changes.
- Advanced Flying Skills: Tailwheel training challenges pilots to refine their flying skills, including precision flying, energy management, and aerodynamic understanding.
- Increased Confidence: Mastering the challenges of flying a tailwheel aircraft can boost a pilot’s confidence and decision-making abilities, both in normal operations and during unexpected situations.
